2020 Junior Season Start Postponed to April 18th

Dear Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Members,

First, let us say thank you for registering your child with the Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Club. We are all dealing with something we have never had to deal with before and our club's top priority is the safety and well being of our members. We are proceeding with caution and under the BC government's recommendations concerning COVID-19, BLFHC has decided to postpone the start of the junior field hockey season. The Greater Vancouver Junior Field Hockey League, which is our governing body during spring play, has taken the decision to postpone games until April 18th. This is not a definitive date and while it may be overly optimistic, we can reassess as we get closer to that date. As you are aware, this is a fast-moving situation and we will continue to monitor events closely to confirm the feasibility of that start date.

The league and club will continue to monitor the situation and we will provide you with updates as we move forward. Thank you for your support and understanding during this time of uncertainty. We advise you to stay home, safe and healthy.

Warmest regards,

BLFHC Executive

BLFHC Celebrates 20 Years!

By Clare Slipiec 12/04/2018, 1:00pm PST

Burnaby Lake Field Hockey celebrates its 20 year milestone

BLFHC celebrated the milestone at a social held on December 1st where awards were presented to several members in appreciation of their continuous dedication, devotion, and leadership to the Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Club. These awards included the Founder and Life Member awards presented to Moira Colbourne and John Nolan, both of whom remain dedicated to the growth and promotion of the sport and are important fixtures in the field hockey community in the Lower Mainland.

Over the years, BLFHC has been host to men’s and women’s teams in their respective Vancouver-based leagues as well as maintained an affiliation with the Simon Fraser University women’s field hockey program. BLFHC has also run a budding junior program with the goal of developing young field hockey players in a fun and inclusive environment. BLFHC now offers opportunities for players, coaches, umpires, and volunteers for a full range of men’s, women’s, and junior programs.

Prior to the fall of 1996, the Dragons (women) and the Burnaby Lake Mohawks (men) had existed as separate and independent entities since their respective formation as clubs. On September 24, 1998, all three entities became the Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Club (BLFHC). In November of 2006, the Burnaby Junior Girls also became part of the club.
