Junior Girls

GENERAL INFORMATION

•        Burnaby Junior Field Hockey Club’s Season consists of U-10 players (Mini), and U-11 to U-18 players (Junior).

•        There are separate leagues for boys and girls teams.

•        The Mini & Junior season starts at the beginning of April, and ends by the third or fourth week of June.

•        The Mini program runs twice a week during the weekdays at Burnaby Lake West and includes in house games linked with the Coquitlam FH club for the girls, and with other local clubs for the boys. This program is an introduction to field hockey with a focus on learning and fun.

•        Junior Teams typically play 10 league games and will also participate in one end of the season tournament

•        Typically Junior teams practice once or twice a week on artificial turfs at Burnaby Lake West and Cariboo Hill Oval.

•        All team practices will be determined prior to the season by the club. Your coach will advise you of practice times when the team is formed

•        Games are not scheduled on weekends that include statutory holidays.

•        Games are usually played on Saturdays and Sundays, and are equally divided between home and away.

•        The Junior League has member clubs from Tsawwassen, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Coquitlam.

•        Burnaby Junior Field Hockey policy is that Junior players are placed at their age group. Changes may be required depending on registration numbers.

•        Field Hockey is a team sport where the emphasis is on participation, teamwork, and fun.

•        Field hockey is a fitness activity that is well suited to children’s exercise requirements, with plenty of running over short distances (chasing the ball), and good development of eye-hand-foot coordination.

•        Field hockey is a sociable, club-based game. Many juniors go on to play in the senior leagues at recreation or competitive levels.

•        All players require a stick, mouth guard, shin pads and suitable footwear (turf shoes or runners preferred, but soccer boots with multi studs are acceptable on most artificial turf fields).

•         Female players U-11 and older will wear skirts (which can be purchased from the club).
